BET Makes History 2023-2024

1st and Only One In LAUSD

Nightingale BET Magnet became the first and only school to complete and pass the Entrepreneurship and Small Business (ESB) certification, an official certificate offered to adults alike and can be used to give job applicants opportunities. 28 BET students now hold this ESB certification, which engages and prepares students who will pursue additional postsecondary training or those who elect to enter the small business sector immediately upon high school graduation. The entrepreneurial concepts validated by this certification ensure that these students are college and career ready.

7 Consecutive National Finals in 9 Years

David Gutierrez advanced to the New York National Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge. David (and his family) will be flown to New York to competed against the top high school students across the U.S.

David earned this accolade by placing in the top 3 LA Metro Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge held at Loyola Marymount University, where David was one of two BET teams (Francesca Vicente & Louie Zeno) competing against 4 talented high school students.

David’s business plan, "Anyone Can Game," included a prototype that integrated specialized technology into a jacket that enhanced the video gaming experience for those with disabilities. The significance of David's accomplishment makes Nightingale BET Magnet the only middle school in the U.S. to advance to this national business competition 7 consecutive times in BET's 9 years of existence.
