Kinesiology

Heart, spirit, and soul of Nightingale Middle School
Kinesiology holds a special place at Nightingale and its history and future. Kinesiology unites our 4 academies and the entire school community. Generation upon generation, Nightingale alumni who return or are beyond the confines of Nightingale (as far as Florida as we know) always ask about the Blue vs Green inter-school rivalry. They ask about the beloved kinesiology staff members who organize the Blue vs Green events and create lifetime memories.

When creating our medicine magnet, health and kinesiology were included as a tribute to Mr. and Mrs. Acevedo (a husband-and-wife-teacher combo at Nightingale) and Mr. Nakano. For 44 years these three pioneers maintained the spirit, tradition, and culture of the school–offering a progressive and model kinesiology department that has been deemed "Nightingale's first magnet program."

Mr. and Mrs. Acevedo have poured their hearts and souls to the school and created such an incredible legacy that the entire activity playground was named after them:  "Acevedo Field"

The Acevedos and Mr. Nakano are deemed the heart, spirit and soul of the school, proudly carrying and continuing over 80 years of school traditions with the annual Football Carnival and Track & Field Event.

Mr. Acevedo conceived the Family 5K Griffith Park Run, another school tradition surpassing 35 consecutive years. The original trinity also inspired--at one time--13 of their former students to return and work for Nightingale. As of 2025, there are 11 former students working as Nightingale majority teachers, coordinators, parent reps, and staff.

As of Mrs. Acevedo's farewell in 2024, all three have retired. Mr. and Mrs. Acevedo's positions were filled by two of their former students: Ms. Molina and Mr. Orozco. Along with Mr. Goytia, this neo trinity continues to develop scholar athletes and champions as part of Nightingale's model kinesiology program.
Leadership & WEB Students

Kinesiology is also responsible for Leadership students. They are the ambassadors of the school. They are the big brothers and sisters of the school. They are mentors. They organize and facilitate school activities, including welcoming dignitaries and special guests to our school. For more information, please contact Ms. Molina, Mr.Goytia and Mr. Orozco.
