Medicine Health Kinesiology (MHK) Magnet

The mission of the MHK Magnet is to increase the number of college-ready students who will graduate with medical and health science degrees as the path to becoming the best kinesiotherapists, biomedical engineers, nutritionists, nurses, and trailblazers in the field. 
 
A bridge to these futures will be achieved through the following pathways:
  • 6th Grade: Public and Community Health. The science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life, promoting health, and develop understanding of careers such as nutritionist, wellness counselors, environmentalists, and health educators.
  • 7th Grade: Patient Care. The medical and health professions preserving mental and physical well-being: Kinesiotherapists, veterinarians, respiratory therapists, nurse anesthetist, radiologic technicians, etc.
  • 8th Grade: Biotechnology. Occupations solving biomedical problems, creating products to improve human life; Connect learning to careers such as biomedical engineers, genetic counselors, forensic pathologists, gene patent lawyers, geneticists lab assistants, etc.
Students will also develop readiness and persistence to complete a college and career path through the following:

  • Art & Medicine
  • College-Career Exploration
We will help students understand that their success and career aspirations ranging from sports medicine to veterinarians cannot be attained without requisite skills from disciplines such as kinesiology, computer science, and incorporation of art and anatomy to study bone structure, muscle, the heart, etc.
